JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ---- Radford Track & Field's Ashlen Veatch finished the hammer throw in 38th place at the NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. Veatch took 10th in the first of three flights with a mark of 52.15m (171-01.00).

Veatch was the first Highlander to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminaries since 2011, when Nikki Roseberry did so in the high jump. She was also the first Radford thrower to make it in the East's top-48 in the hammer since her sister, Aimee, qualified in 2010.

Veatch's personal-best heave of 56.54m (185-06.00) recorded at the Tennessee Challenge on May 2 proved to be the 44th best throw in the hammer in the region coming into Saturday's competition and is the fifth-best mark in program history.

The top-12 competitors in each discipline advanced to the NCAA finals at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., from June 10-13.
