BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – As Radford's Big South slate comes to a close next week, the Highlanders dropped a 5-2 match to Gardner-Webb on Friday afternoon.

Gardner-Webb (8-14, 1-5 Big South) picked up wins in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take the early point.

Radford (8-8, 0-5 Big South) earned a 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles as Matko Varga and Carlos Sala improved to 5-5 as a doubles tandem.

Michiel Meekers knotted the match at one to start singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Stefano Puga. Continuing his sensational season, Meekers is now 12-4 on the year, holding a 3-2 clip in league play.

The Runnin' Bulldogs took the next two singles matches, extending its lead to 3-1.

Varga collected his second win on the day in No. 3 singles, handing Paul Hogan a 7-5, 6-1 loss. The win moves Varga to 10-6 on the year, while picking up his first league win.

Inching within 3-2, Gardner-Webb held off the Highlanders, taking No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the 5-2 decision.

Radford's Big South road swing continues on Saturday with a 12 p.m., match at Presbyterian.
