
MEN'S TENNIS RECOGNIZED BY ITA FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

RADFORD, Va. – Taking huge strides in the classroom, the Radford men's tennis program was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team while Alexandros Caldwell, Rodrigo Magalhaes, Carlos Sala and Matko Varga have been named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

The quartet becomes the first group of Highlanders named ITA Scholar-Athletes since Nicholas Sayer and Joe Mills earned the distinction in 2014. Student-Athletes must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of 3.50 or great for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters to garner the award.

Varga achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Math major and Magalhaes narrowly missed perfection himself with a 3.97 GPA as an Allied Health Sciences major. Caldwell was excellent with a 3.8 GPA in Management and Sala finished with a 3.7 GPA in Political Science.

As a team, Radford men's tennis met its high expectations to qualify as an ITA All-Academic team for the first time since 2007. The ITA All-Academic award is open to any program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or greater.

They join the Radford women's tennis team which earned the award as well.
