
HIGHLANDERS BOUNCE LONGWOOD FOR THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY; GAIN SHARE OF FIRST-PLACE

Farmville, Va.- The Radford women's basketball team won their third straight contest as they overwhelmed the Longwood Lancers, 68-34, on Saturday afternoon at Willett Hall.
The Highlanders (11-6, 5-1 BSC), who moved into a first-place tie with Hampton in the loss column, held the Lancers to a 23.1 percent shooting clip as the hosts were just 12-for-52 from the floor.
Junior guard Khiana Johnson paced Radford with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and also added a game-high six assists. Redshirt junior forward Lydia Rivers produced her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Redshirt junior guard Jen Falconer equaled her season-high with 12 points and went a perfect 4-of-4 from behind the arc. Senior guard/forward Destinee Walker (10 points, 8 rebounds) grabbed her 500th career carom to become just the 16th player in Highlander history to amass 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Sydney Nunley's streak of seven consecutive double-doubles came to an end but she did pull down a game-high 15 rebounds.
Radford held Longwood (1-14, 0-5 BSC) to just one field goal in the opening quarter as they grabbed a 15-3 after the opening 10 minutes. Rivers scored six points and grabbed four boards in the first stanza and Johnson added five points.
The Highlanders extended their lead to 16, 23-7, after Falconer drained her first triple of the afternoon at the 6:45 mark.
Ciarah Bennett (10 points) scored the next five points for Longwood to trim the deficit to 23-12, however, Walker hit a jumper and then added a pair of free throws to push the lead back to 27-12 with 2:22 remaining.
Radford, who went a season-best 14-for-14 from the charity-stripe on the day, took a 34-19 halftime advantage after Johnson splashed a trifecta just before the break.
The Highlanders put the game away with an impressive third quarter as the visitors outscored the Lancers by a 21-7 count to grab a 55-26 lead.
Radford scored the first 13 points of the frame and led 47-19 with four minutes left. Freshman guard Makaila Wilson and Falconer swished long-range bombs and Rivers also contributed a conventional three-point play.
The Highlanders took their largest lead of the day at 64-26 after Falconer hit her final trey of the game with 6:29 left in the contest.
The visitors out-rebounded Longwood by a 57-32 count and forced 22 turnovers.
Presbyterian will visit the Dedmon Center on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
