CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Personal records were broken across the board for Radford at the Royals Challenge Friday afternoon, highlighted by a ninth-place finish by the women and a 16th place finish by the men.
On the women's side of the race, all racers spare one saw action in a packed field of competition. Multiple Highlanders broke their PR's, with Caitlin Apps highlighting the records broken again with a stellar 17:34 5K time which broke her own program record that she set just two weeks ago. Kayland Bond wasn't far behind placing 37th with a time of 18:30. Annsley Eckert's 18:37 time rounded out the trio of top-50 finishers for Radford.
The women's team's top seven finishers including Maddie Yancey who placed 139th, just outside the team's top seven, leading to all top racers and more finishing within the top 150 racers in a field that saw over 500 competing.
Many Highlanders set PR's Friday afternoon. Apps, Savannah Hoff, Rachel Millirons, Rhianna Reddinger, and Yancey were all freshman who recorded their PR's on the 5K course.
On the men's side of the race, all but one racer competed for the Highlanders. Joe Limo continued to lead the way with a stellar 25:34 time that was good for a 75th place finish among over 500 racers. Juan Cisneros was next to finish for the Highlanders keeping his great pace. Zach Worthman rounded out the trio of Highlanders to finish in the top 150 racers with his time of 26:11. Freshman Jacob Hanner placed 152nd, just outside the top 150 with his time of 26:24.
Similar to the women's team, many competitors on the men's side recorded their 8K PR's. Cisneros, Hanner, Peyton Hurd, Limo, Benjamin Pinckney, and Worthman all record their new PR's.
Radford will be back in North Carolina next Friday for the Vertcross Invitational hosted by High Point. It will be the final tune-up for Radford before the Big South Championships.
