HIGHLANDERS SET FOR HOME OPENER AGAINST BRIDGEWATER

RADFORD, Va. – After opening the 2019-20 season on the road, the Radford men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the Dedmon Center on Tuesday night for its home opener against Bridgewater College.
The Highlanders are in search of their first win of the season and their 17th consecutive win in a home opener. Radford has won each of its first eight home openers under head coach Mike Jones, taking the contests by an average of 13 points per game.
Redshirt junior guard Carlik Jones stole the show in the Highlanders' season-opening six-point loss at Liberty, scoring a career-high 31 points on a 10-for-20 mark from the field. Jones also added six rebounds and a steal in 33 minutes of action. Senior guard Travis Fields Jr. scored 15 and was 6-for-7 from the foul line.
Despite the loss, there were plenty of positives for the Highlanders, especially in the second half. Radford's stout defense limited Liberty to just one 3-pointer in the second half and a shooting percentage of under 40 percent from the field, which allowed the Highlanders to cut a 20-point deficit down to four before eventually falling to the Flames.
Quinton-Morton Robinson provided five points in 16 minutes off the bench for the Highlanders, marking his first appearance and points in a Radford uniform. Devine Eke, Lewis Djonkam and Miles Jones each made their Highlander debuts against Liberty.
Bridgewater finished the 2018-19 season at 12-14 overall and 7-9 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Eagles, a Division III member, have a new head coach in former VMI assistant Steve Enright and return one starter in Davrion Grier. Chandler Murray and TJ Turner also return and have previously started games for the Eagles, who were picked to finish 13th in the ODAC.
Radford and Bridgewater have met eight times with the Highlanders claiming seven of the eight wins. The first meeting was in 1975 and the last came during the 2018-19 season. The Highlanders picked up an 86-46 win.
