RADFORD, Va. – Michiel Meekers and the Radford men's tennis team topped Bluefield College, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon at the Radford Tennis Complex.

Meekers sealed the match and gave Radford a 4-0 lead when he defeated Fedor Kulavkov, 6-2, 6-0 on court 3. The victory was the redshirt-senior's fourth victory this season.

The day began when the Highlanders won the doubles point as Yevhen Sirous and Pierre-Olivier Lassalle won court 2, 6-3. This came just moments after Meekers and Alexandros Caldwell took court 1. Matko Varga and Andres Silva seized court 3, 6-4.

Radford grabbed the 1-0 lead and ran with it as Silva made quick work of Gabe Poling on court 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Lassalle made it a 3-0 match when he won court 4, 6-1, 6-1 as well.

After Meekers clinched the match for the Highlanders, Varga took down Yaroslav Hnatusko, 6-1, 6-2. Then things started slowing down in the final two singles matches.

Sirous and Caldwell playing as the No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, both went into a third set. However, with the matched already clinched the two courts played a 10-point tiebreaker as the third set. Sirous won his tiebreak set, 10-6. He dropped the first set, 5-7, but bounced back to take the point.

With a 6-0 lead the sweep relied on Caldwell. The senior won his first set, 6-1, but dropped the second, 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreak. Caldwell and Satoshi Yamada went into a third set and it was all Caldwell. The Athens, Greece native won the set 10-2 and sealed the sweep for the Highlanders.
