MEN’S TENNIS IMPROVES TO 6-1 AFTER SWEEPING MOUNT ST. MARY’S

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's tennis team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Radford Tennis Complex and improved to 6-1 for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

The doubles play started and the Highlanders made quick work of the Mountaineers on court 1. Yevhen Sirous and Rodrigo Magalhaes picked up a 6-1 victory. Not long after Alexandros Caldwell and Michiel Meekers gave the Highlanders a 1-0 lead with a 6-4 win on court 2.

Courts 5 and 6 were quickly won by the Highlanders as Pierre-Olivier Lassalle won 6-0, 6-1 and Matko Varga defeated Evan Hine 6-2, 6-1. The pair of victories gave Radford a 3-0 lead.

Magalhaes, who made his second appearance back after missing a few matches, clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Sirous then picked up a win on court 1 and Caldwell defeated Alonso Garcia on court 3, 6-0, 6-4.

Meekers was the last one to finish. He could give Radford a sweep with a win and he did just that. The redshirt senior defeated Jean Armstrong, 6-3, 6-2 and gave the Highlanders a 7-0 win. He along with the six other singles matches finished in two sets. It's the second time all season – and two of the last three matches – that all singles matches ended in two sets.

DID YOU KNOW…
Radford is 3-0 at home this season and has not lost a doubles match in the NRV or on the road.

UP NEXT
The Highlanders will stay home and look to go 2-0 in the Big South when USC Upstate pays a visit on Friday at 2 p.m.
