Radford, Va. – Behind a season-high 18 kills from senior Samantha Reitz, the Radford Volleyball team defeated USC Upstate 3-1 in Big South action Friday evening at the Dedmon Center.

With the win, the Highlanders recorded their first victory in conference play and snapped a nine-game losing streak.

Radford got off to a slow start, trailing 9-2 early in the first set. The home team responded with a 7-4 spurt, but the Spartans held steady the rest of the way to take the set.

In the second game, with the score at 10-10, Radford reeled off seven consecutive points to take control and win the set 25-18. The effort was highlighted by multiple blocks from Kennedi Johnson and Lizzie Chiesa.

From there, it was all Highlanders, as Radford took the next two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-20 en route to the win.

KEY STATS

This was only the second game this year in which Reitz recorded double-digit kills. She last did so on Aug. 28th against Eastern Kentucky.
Grace Green paced Radford with 17 digs and three service aces.
The win was the Highlanders' first since a 3-1 triumph over UNC Wilmington on Sep. 11th.

UP NEXT

Radford will look to make it two in a row as they play host to UNC Asheville at 2 p.m. in the Dedmon Center.
