
Winthrop Defeats Radford 3-0

Radford, Va. – Despite a furious rally in third set that saw the Highlanders nearly overcome a 7-0 deficit, the Radford volleyball team fell to Winthrop 3-0 in Big South Conference action Friday evening at the Dedmon Center.
Winthrop started the match on a strong note, racing out to an 18-10 lead in the first set before ultimately taking the opener 25-17. The second set played out similarly, as the visiting Eagles won 25-18.
Senior Sami Reitz was a bright spot in the losing effort, recording a game-high 12 kills, her most since an 18-kill performance against USC Upstate on October 15.
In the third set, the Highlanders slowly crawled back from an early hole, utilizing a 6-1 run to take their first lead of the game at 21-20. After a pair of back-and-forth sequences, Winthrop scored the final four points of the set to win 25-23 and take the match.

Radford will conclude their regular season with Senior Day against Gardner-Webb on Saturday at 2 p.m. The team will honor eight seniors before the game.
