Close Match Doesn’t Go Highlanders' Way

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (4-4) kept the match close but ultimately fell to Elon (9-2) on Wednesday afternoon in a 2-5 final.
The Highlanders were within grasp of the doubles point after winning on court three thanks to the strong play of Konstantinos Raptis and William Crane and Elon taking court one. Elon took the doubles point, though, after Demis Taramonlis and Andres Silva lost a close match 4-6 on court two.
Silva was the first to finish in singles, quickly dispatching his opponent 6-3, 6-2 on court five. Aditya Balsekar also picked up another victory on court six to push his total to six singles victories on the year.
With the match at a 3-2 Elon lead, courts one and three decided the match. Yevhen Sirous came close to a three-set victory, but ultimately fell late in a tiebreaker 6-3, 2-6, 6(3)-7. Guilherme Severin also had a close match go three sets on court three, and also fell 5-7, 6-2, 3-6.
