Highlanders Finish Spring Season at Big South Championship

NINETY SIX, S.C. – The Radford women's golf team concluded their season at the Big South Championship this week, with play starting on Wednesday and ending on Friday as the Highlanders finished in ninth place after three rounds of play.
DAY ONE
Radford got off to a rocky start in the first round as the team shot 323 at 35-over and finished the day in tenth place. Natalie Welsh carded the best round for the Highlanders shooting a solid 4-over with two birdies. Sidney Walker led the team in birdies in the first round recording three while Jimmena Ramirez also recorded two birdies of her own. Riko Nagai had a good start through the first nine holes where she shot 3-over while Niki Batac was the opposite with a strong finish in the second half of the round shooting 5-over.
DAY TWO
Day two brought on the second round of the competition where the Highlanders as a team rebounded for their best round of the tournament. Radford shot 310 at 22-over and moved up the standings into ninth place. Their performance was also the eighth best of that round among the ten teams.
Welsh had the best performance of the day and used four straight birdies on the last four holes to propel herself into the top-25 competitors at a total 8-over on the tournament. Her round score of 4-over was tied for best on the team with Walker who also shot 4-over. Walker had three birdies with two coming in the second half of the round. Ramirez rounded out the top-performers of the day for Radford at 6-over shooting even a majority of the day with one birdie.
DAY THREE
The Highlanders played more of the same in the third and final round of the tournament. The team finished at 311 at 23-over with Welsh leading the team once again shooting just 2-over and leading the team with three birdies. Walker also was consistent all day with a final round score of 5-over. Nagai, Ramirez, and Batac all had one birdie each in their final rounds as well.
Radford would finish ninth place overall after three rounds of play. Campbell, USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb, and High Point were the top four teams that wound up advancing to the final day of the tournament.
