Men’s Tennis Puts Up Good Results at ITA Regionals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Radford men's tennis program took on some of the Atlantic region's best this past week at the ITA Regionals and came away with some good results across the board.

To kick things off on Wednesday Robert Hagen opened up his impressive tournament run with a pair of singles victories. Hagen first defeated Jarrett Karnibad of Mount St. Mary's 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round of the bronze bracket. Hagen then defeated Hayden Postin of George Mason 6-2, 6-3 to move into the final round of the bronze bracket. Filippo Marangoni also picked up a first round win, defeating Chris Cianciotti of Duquesne 6-1, 6-1.

On Thursday the wins kept coming in for Radford. Manfredi Vergine bounced back to pick up a three-set win over Hassimiyou Dieng of Howard 1-6, 6-4, 1-0(7). To move on to the silver bracket, Hagen won his third-straight singles match 6-1, 6-2 over Albert Hansen of William & Mary. Rounding out the victorious Highlanders on the day was Dinos Raptis who picked up a win in the opening round of the silver bracket over Oliver Tobisch of Old Dominion 6-4, 6-2.

Over the final couple days of the tournament Radford continued to find success in some big match-ups. Guilherme Severin and Raptis teamed up in doubles to take down the pairing of Blumenschein/Gorregeus from Temple 8-7(7) on Friday. Demis Taramonlis then wrapped up competition on Sunday with a decisive singles win 6-3, 7-5 over George Davis from William & Mary.

The Highlanders will be back in action later this week when the team travels to Boiling Springs, N.C. to compete in the Big South Individuals at Gardner-Webb. The upcoming tournament will be the last of the Highlanders' fall tournament slate.
