SERIES HISTORY
Monday's match-up between Radford and Marquette will be the first meeting between the two programs in history.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Led by a familiar face - Head Coach Shaka Smart - Marquette will look to defy expectations this season after being picked to finish ninth the the Big EAST preseason coaches' poll. The Golden Eagles went 19-13 overall and 11-8 in conference play a year ago, but lose a large amount of their production with the departure of Justin Lewis (16.8 ppg, 7.9 rpg), Darryl Morsell (13.4 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.5 apg), and Kur Kuath (5.6 ppg, 2.5 bpg).
Not a single returner averaged double-digits in scoring for Marquette last season, but Tyler Kolek does bring back his 5.9 assists per game and 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio. Zach Wrightsill, a transfer from Loyola New Orleans, enters the fray after averaging 18.8 points and 8.8 rebounds during his 2021-22 campaign.
Nevertheless, Marquette was an NCAA Tournament team last year and will pose a stout first test for the Highlanders this year.
SHAQ TO THE TOP
Recent graduate Lewis Djonkam currently holds the program record for career field goal percentage, shooting 59.8% on 189 attempts. Senior forward
Shaquan Jules enters this season shooting 66.1% from the field in his Highlander career, but on just 146 attempts. With the minimum requirement set for 150 attempts, Jules will need just four more shot attempts to take his spot atop the record book for career field goal percentage.
