WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Radford women's golf team battled the cold and wind all day to have a solid first day and earn a spot right in the thick of things at William & Mary's Kingsmill Intercollegiate on Monday.
Â
Caleigh Street very well may have made history in the first round, sinking what is thought to be a program record seven birdies in a single round. She shot a 1-under par 71 and was tied for first through 18 holes. Although she recorded just one birdie in the second round, she still played well to the tune of a +6, putting her in a tie for 3rd heading into the final round.
Â
Senior captain Natalie Welsh continues to be an anchor for the team, playing consistent golf round after round. She shot +9 in the first round and followed it up with a +5 in the second round to move up 10 spots into a tie for 32nd.
Â
Jayde Dudley put together the team's second-best round of the day, shooting 6-over par in the first go around and then shooting 10-over par in the second round to finish the day tied for 39th. The Roanoke native tallied three birdies across both rounds.
Â
Riko Nagai birdied the 10th hole in the first round and the 16th hole in the second round, but had some difficulty sticking to par on most holes due to the tough conditions. She ended the day at +19, good for 51st place.
Â
Also at 19-over par was Jimenna Ramirez, who couldn't quite find her rhythm in the first before making major improvements in the second round. She trimmed seven strokes off of her score to shoot a +6 that included back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes.
Â
Radford also had Niki Batac playing as an individual in the tournament. With a +8 in the first round and a +7 in the second round, she is tied for 32nd with Welsh.
