
Wellings Paces Highlanders at VMI Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, Va.  - The Radford University women's track & field team closed out its January schedule at the VMI Winter Classic this weekend. The Highlanders' efforts were headlined by Chloe Wellings, who picked up a victory in the women's 3,000-meter race. The junior came across the line first with a final time of 9:54.37.

Radford also earned a pair of top-three finishes via the underclassmen duo of Sophie Magson and Parker Goldstein. Magson finished third in the mile with a time of 5:05.50. Goldstein finished tied for third after recording a height of 1.60 meters in the high jump.Â

The freshmen duo of Jaslyne Robinson and Kate McLearen rounded out the Highlanders' top-five scoring efforts. Robinson had a busy and successful weekend as she competed in the 60-meter hurdles. After advancing through the preliminaries and semi-final round, she placed fifth in the finals with a time of 9.08 seconds. McLearen recorded a time of 5:11.87 to finish fifth in the mile.Â

Rachel Millirons earned a top-ten spot in the 3,000-meter race by finishing with a time of 10:36.89 to place eighth. Kandace McIvor qualified for the semi-finals of the 60-meter hurdles and registered a personal-best time of 9.43 seconds.Â

Head coach Shelli Sayers is glad to see her youthful squad starting to click. "We are a very young team. We keep progressing and learning how to be better week to week. When we are all on at the same time, it will be very exciting for our team."

UP NEXT
While most of the team will have next weekend off, the multi-event athletes will return to action at the VMI Pentathlon on Friday.
