RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball program took down Charleston Southern 3-2 Saturday afternoon in a back-and-forth affair that took the full five sets to decide.
Sophie Paspal and
Rylee Sloss had stellar performances. Paspal fueled the offense with a career-high 20 kills and 24 total points. The team had a season high of 17 aces which is just the second time the team has earned double digit aces this season. Sloss produced six of those service aces, the second most in school history for a single player. This is also Radford's most aces under head coach
Sherisa Livingston's during her four-year career at Radford.
Radford took the first set 25-19 thanks to a 5-0 run out the gates. This run included the first of many kills from Paspal and two of Sloss' service aces. The Buccaneers squeezed by in the second set after a tight finish of 25-23 despite an outstanding performance from
Olivia Flanagan crafting four kills.
During the third set, the Highlanders went on a 6-0 run late and the team found themselves back on top with a 25-17 win. However, the fight wasn't over when Charleston Southern came out victorious in the fourth set 25-19 despite Radford going on 6-0 run.
Coming down to the fifth set it was
Jordan Taylor,
Olivia Flanagan and
Sophie Paspal leading the team on a 4-0 run to end the game and give the team a perfect record in the penultimate weekend of conference play.
