CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that Macie Potter has not only repeated as the conference's Freshman of the Week but has also earned her first Player of the Week award after a stellar weekend that netted Radford two pivotal Big South victories.
Â
The reigning Freshman of the Week continued her hot streak by leading Radford's offense to another 2-0 weekend with wins over USC Upstate and UNC Asheville. Shaking off an injury that caused her to be limited in a few sets on Friday, she still averaged 3.67 kills per set, a team high, while posting 11 kills against the Spartans a single-match high of 22 in a five set win over the Bulldogs.
Â
In that comeback over UNC Asheville, she tallied 17 of her 22 kills over those final three sets to boost Radford to the win. She hit with incredible accuracy all weekend hitting .529 against USC Upstate and .415 against UNC Asheville. Her .322 attack percentage in conference play currently leads all Big South freshmen. Potter would also finish with double-doubles in both matches averaging 2.78 digs per set, which was second most on the team.
Â
The weekly award is the fourth for the Highlanders this season as well as the third and fourth in Potter's young career. Potter is the first Highlander since 2014 to earn multiple Freshman of the Week nods in the same season, last done so by program great Maddie Palmer in her debut year.
Â
Radford another pair of matches inside the Dedmon Center this weekend as the final stretch of the regular season comes into view. On Friday night Radford hosts Charleston Southern for a 6:00 p.m. start that features Morgan's Message. Saturday's match against Presbyterian is at 4:00 p.m.
