Women’s Tennis and East Carolina Duel to 6-1 Final

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford women's tennis program fell against East Carolina Saturday afternoon to a final score of 6-1. Julia Abrams highlighted the contest with her straight-set victory on the top flight.

The early morning match got going at 10 a.m. with doubles play where the Highlanders were competitive on a pair of courts before the Pirates would take the 1-0 edge. Julia Abrams and Emily Brandow battled hard on the top flight, but fell 6-4. Camryn McClure and Ameek Batth were also in a tight 4-3 battle before the game was called as East Carolina had clinched the point.

In singles play Radford picked up a win on court one thanks to Abrams who dispatched her opponent 6-3, 6-1 for her first singles win in a Radford uniform. Brooke Murphy forced three sets looking for a comeback win, but fell in a tightly contested tiebreaker 5-7, 6-0, 7-6(8).

The Highlanders will have a week to regroup and recover after a quick start to the season. Radford's next match will be next Saturday back in Blacksburg, Va. to take on West Virginia at 5 p.m.
