Radford Rewrites Record Book After Final Day at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Radford University women's track & field team closed out their action at Liberty this season with an impressive weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational. The Highlanders pieced together a pair of successful days, highlighted by another strong outing from Chloe Wellings who anchored the distance medley relay team to a win to highlight the team's penultimate regular season meet.

The team of Sophie Magson, Breauna Lane, Kate McLearen and Wellings picked up a victory in the distance medley relay after posting a time of 12:02.58. Wellings ran her fastest mile ever (5:00.27) to secure the win and also posted the third-fastest 3,000-meter time in program history with a mark of 9:40.09.

Magson also recorded a historic performance in the 3,000-meter race. The freshman tallied a personal record, finishing the race with a final time of 9:57.87; she now sits at fourth all-time in program history.

Jaslyne Robinson is now tied for eighth all-time in the 60-meter hurdles after posting a time of 9.03 seconds. Fellow freshman Dezmajia Carter also put her name in the program's record book thanks to a personal record long jump. She now owns the seventh-best mark of 5.40 meters.

In her first ever 800-meter race, MacKenzie Gardner posted the sixth-fastest time in program history. The senior crossed the line with a time of 2:19.22.

Abby Seigel also etched her name into the archives. She is now ninth all-time in the 5,000-meter race after recording a personal-best time of 18:14.

The Highlanders closed out the competition with their second fastest 4x400-meter relay of the season. The team of Julia Burkley, Raichelle Cornelius, Jordan Jackson and Robinson rounded out the top ten after posting a time of 3:57.89 as Burkley laid down a blistering split of 58.87 seconds.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Shelli Sayers is thrilled with the progress her squad has made as the regular season winds down. "This was an incredible weekend for us across the board. Everything is coming together in time for the conference championships."

"Chloe was so impressive on Friday. She was just shy of the school record in the 3,000-meter race and then solo anchored the DMR today with the fastest mile of her life."

UP NEXT
The team returns to action at the Virginia Tech Challenge next weekend. The cross-town meet will serve as the final tune-up before the Big South Conference Championships that will be held during the final weekend of February.
