RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's basketball team held off Campbell for a 67-65 Senior Day win in the season finale inside the Dedmon Center on Saturday afternoon.
The win gives the Highlanders (18-13, 12-6 Big South) some momentum heading into the Big South Championships at Bojangles Arena, where they will be the third seed and face off with the sixth-seeded Winthrop Eagles next Friday, March 3 at 8 pm.
It was a complete team effort for Radford as nine different players scored, including six who put up seven or more points. Freshman guard Kenyon Giles led the way with 14 points, his highest output of conference play this season.
Justin Archer came up huge on both ends, scoring seven points and grabbing a season-high 14 rebounds. The North Brunswick, N.J. product went 5-for-7 from the line as well, marking his best percentage in a single game this year.
Making statements on their senior day, the trio of Shaquan Jules, Onyebuchi Ezeakudo, and Josiah Jeffers all finished with nine points. Jules pulled down eight rebounds and added a block while Ezeakudo and Jeffers tied for the team lead in assists with three apiece.
The Highlanders looked strong in the first half yet again building a 12-point lead with 5:37 to play. They took a 36-29 lead into halftime, a good omen considering the team is now 15-4 when leading at the break this season.
Like too many other games, though, the opposition mounted a comeback that had the Radford faithful holding their collective breath.
A major run gave the Fighting Camels a 45-43 lead with just over 12 minutes to play and the contest remained close to the very end. Campbell's Ricky Clemons scored the team's final seven points, but his free throws didn't drop when it mattered most and Radford held on.
