CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Radford softball program faced a tough ACC foe Tuesday night Virginia in a doubleheader. Radford didn't get the win, but was competitive in both games.
In the first game of the day freshman Malorie Reeves got the starting nod once again for Radford and was impressive. After a tough first inning, Reeves settled in for four innings only allowing two earned runs against the Cavaliers. Reeves forced seven flyouts and five ground outs while and her defense backed her up to keep the opponent at bay.
The bats weren't able to get moving, and after a tough fifth inning Virginia was able to pull away with the 7-0 final. Emily Spingarn entered in relief and dialed up two good innings for Radford. Spingarn faced just two batters over the minimum in her emergency relief effort.
For the second game of the day Radford got the bats moving and were in it late despite the eventual 10-2 final score. Freshman Chloe Greene was the starter in the circle for Radford and held the Cavaliers to four runs over three innings.
Kari Shedrick and Taylor Trent had bounce-back performances in game two with each collecting a pair of hits. Trent's was the biggest of the day as her first career triple in the fourth inning scored Laura Thompson. Rachel Smith got Trent home with a ground out and made it just a 4-2 game. Virginia was able to power through with six runs over the final two innings of the game however, for the 10-2 final.
