Highladers' Offense Stifled In Loss To Gardner-Webb
2/9/2023 9:40:00 PM | Men's Basketball
RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's basketball team simply couldn't get shots to fall as it's nine-game winning streak came to an end with a 61-48 loss to Gardner-Webb on Thursday night.
Highlander Nation showed up yet again as more than 2,000 fans filled Carilion Clinic Court at the Dedmon Center and gave Radford a strong home court advantage. Unfortunately, the Runnin' Bulldogs have the Highlanders' number here, winning five straight games in the New River Valley.
Radford drops to 16-10 overall and 10-3 in Big South play while GWU jumps to 14-11 on the season and 9-4 against conference competition.
The most important stat of the night is Radford's shooting percentages: 32.2% (19-59) from the field, 18.8% (3-16) from three, and 50.0% (7-14) at the free throw line. The Highlanders made just eight shots in the first half and 11 in the second half, making it nearly impossible for the comeback bid to take shape.
Josiah Jeffers knocked down a jumper right before halftime to pull within one possession at 26-23 during halftime and then Bryan Antoine's finger roll layup made it a one point game early in the second half.
The Runnin' Bulldogs took control from then on out, putting together a 14-0 run to go way in front. The visitors' lead grew to as many as 18 points with just 2:31 left and they cruised to a win.
Bryan Antoine led all players with 16 points 6-of-10 shooting. Anthony Selden paced GWU with 14 of his own.
