CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South released its 2023 Women's Track & Field Preseason Poll on Tuesday afternoon and the league's member coaches predicted Radford University to finish fourth amongst the Big South's eight competing institutions.
Following a fourth-place finish at the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Highlanders seem ready to follow suit with another finish in the top half of the conference standings during the outdoor season. Seven of the women's team's votes landed them in the fourth spot. Radford's 39 points were a full 11 points more than USC Upstate and UNC Asheville. High Point was named the preseason favorite with all eight first-place votes and a total of 64 points.
Following a slew of impressive performances at the conference championship meet, highlighted by
Chloe Wellings setting a new school record in the 5,000-meter, the Highlanders look to capitalize on that momentum with the outdoor season right around the corner.
A youthful squad that includes 19 freshmen will kick off the outdoor season next weekend. The Highlanders are scheduled to compete in seven different regular season meets before the Big South Championships which will be hosted by Winthrop from Wednesday, May 10 to Friday, May 12.
