Softball Falls at Campbell in Quick Turnaround

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Radford softball program had a quick turnaround in their rescheduled game against Campbell Friday night and fell in a final score 7-1. Radford and Campbell were originally supposed to meet tomorrow, but due to weather the weekend required a rescheduled that saw that two teams pitted against each other in a single game today and doubleheader Sunday.
The Highlanders immediately put together a scoring threat in the opening inning. Cori McMillan got things started with a walk and stole second with one out in the inning. Abby Wilson singled to right center, and Radford had two runners on with just the one out. Campbell retired the next two batters, though, and Radford was scoreless.
After a scoreless first by starting pitcher Chloe Greene, the Camels struck for three runs in the bottom of the second. In the top of the third Radford would break the ice and cross a runner to cut into the lead. McMillan stayed hot tripling with two outs in the inning to set up Wilson. A ground rule double scored McMillan and made it just a 3-1 game.
Campbell would take advantage of a pair of Radford errors in the bottom half of the third to score three unearned runs and push their lead further to 6-1. It would be all the Camels needed as they held on for the eventual 7-1 final score.

Radford and Campbell will meet up again for a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. to close out the weekend series.
