Highlanders Set Nine New Personal Records in Regular Season Finale at UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Radford University women's track & field team wrapped up the regular season on Sunday, competing in the one-day UVA High Performance Meet. With the Big South Championships just two weeks away, the Highlanders showed out in their regular season finale as the group tallied nine new personal records.

RESULTS
Radford started the day off strong thanks to the throwing duo of Mya Rosser and Jaylen Rosser. The twin sisters combined for five different personal-best marks across the three different throws.

Mya earned a top five finish in both the hammer throw and discus with distances of 34.91 meters and 33.36 meters, respectively. A best-ever throw of 11.31 meters in the shot put was good enough for sixth place.

Jaylen had a remarkable day, registering personal bests in all three of her throws. She earned a pair of sixth-place finishes with a 34.14-meter mark in the hammer throw and a distance of 31.92 meters in the discus. She also threw a lifetime-best distance in the shot put, 10.46 meters.

The Highlanders also had an outstanding day in the long jump. The group put on a strong display, earning two podium finishes and three of the top four spots. Elyssia Fisher landed a 5.60-meter jump to place second, good enough for seventh all time in the program's record book. Dezmajia Carter finished just one spot behind, also registering a new personal record, with a jump of 5.34 meters.

Once Radford took to the track, the squad continued to impress there as well. A pair of freshman hurdlers, Jaslyne Robinson and Kandace McIvor, extended their stellar first-year campaign with new personal records in the 100-meter hurdles. Robinson came across the line fourth with a time of 14.68 seconds while McIvor's 15.47 seconds effort earned her sixth place.

Fisher had a busy day, but that didn't stop the Durham, N.C. native from her second top-five finish of the day. She earned fifth place in the 200-meter dash after a new personal record of 25.21 seconds.

QUOTABLE
With the postseason right around the corner, head coach Shelli Sayers was thrilled to see the team end the regular season on such a high note. "You never know what to expect the week before exams but this group had a goal and they were focused," she said.

"This was a big day for them across the board and it created momentum leading into the conference championships for the entire team."

UP NEXT
The next time the Highlanders return to action, it will be in Rock Hill, S.C. at the Big South Conference Championships. The three-day event starts on Wednesday, May 12 and will conclude that Friday.
