
Sowers Sets Program Record for 8k as Highlanders Earn Multiple Top Finishes at Roanoke XC Invite

ROANOKE, Va. – The Radford men's and women's cross-country programs put forth a pair of strong performances Saturday morning at the Roanoke XC Invite highlighted by Maxton Sowers' program record in the 8k with five other Highlanders also writing their names in the record book.

The women kicked off the morning and immediately set the tone with a slew of great performances to place third among 15 competing teams. First to finish for Radford was the junior Kate McLearen who placed fifth overall and improved her record book time in the 6k at 21:17.9, which now ranks fifth all-time. Leonora Lynn followed just being McLearen placing 11th overall at 21:40.8 putting her name in the record book at sixth all-time.

Just about everyone who ran Saturday morning set new personal records on the women's team. Placing third for the Highlanders was Megan Cash while Sienna Bailey and Kayla Fields wrapped up the team's top five finishers, all with new personal records. Mia Farley, Claire Keefe, Kasey Rosenbaum and Katelyn Campbell all also set new personal bests for the 6k race.

Following the women's team was the men who had an incredible final tune-up before the conference championship. Sowers set a new program record with his time of 24:34.6 in the 8k and placed fifth overall in the event. Following him was Charlie Dance who improved his spot in the record book at fourth all-time with a time of 24:48.8.

Azrael Cabusao also improved his fifth-best time in the record book at 24:49.5. Rounding out the record book finishes was Clay Kelly who moves into sixth all-time at 25:12.5. Liam McDonald sealed the first-place finish for Radford as he was fifth to finish with a personal best time of his own.

UP NEXT
The men's and women's cross country programs will turn their focus to the quickly approaching Big South Championships, this year hosted by Charleston Southern. Radford will make the trip to Charleston, S.C. to compete for the conference title on November 1st with the women starting at 9 a.m., the men at 9:45 a.m. and the trophy ceremony at 10:45 a.m.
