Softball Falls to Virginia Tech in Georgia Classic Finale

ATHENS, Ga. – The Radford softball program fell in a tough one to ranked Virginia Tech Sunday afternoon in their final game at the Georgia Classic 13-1.

The Hokies scored early to build their lead they would never relinquish, hitting three home runs in the first inning to sprint out to the 5-0 advantage. Radford's offense would be held hitless over the first three innings, and the Hokies added four more runs after a scoreless second to make it a 9-0 deficit headed into the fourth.

Lexie Roberts slashed the Highlanders first hit of the day in the top of the fourth, singling to the shortstop. She remains perfect in stolen bases on the season as well, swiping second base.

After Virginia Tech grew their lead to 13-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Highlanders were able to strike back in the fifth. Against her former team, Emma Yates struck for a solo homer in the fifth that scored Radford's first run of the game.

KEY STATS

Yates' home run in the fifth was her first home run at the college level.
Roberts continues her hot streak to start the season as she has 16 hits over the Highlanders first 12 games.

UP NEXT
Radford will face Virginia in their next contest, but this time the pair of in-state squads will face off within the Commonwealth at Radford Softball Stadium. The doubleheader is slated to start at 2 p.m., and fans arriving to the games can receive a free Radford-themed beanie giveaway.
