
Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short in Big South Tournament Final

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford women's basketball program came up short in the Big South tournament final Sunday night 60-37 to the fifth-seed Presbyterian.
Shooting woes plagued the Highlanders throughout the contest, but things were kept close up until the fourth quarter where things fully slipped away.
It was Ashlyn Traylor-Walker who would open the scoring as the sophomore immediately got Radford ahead with a 2-0 lead. Presbyterian knocked back, but Olivia Wagner and Terissa Lavoile-Brice responded with makes to keep Radford pacing ahead.
Taniya Hanner tied the game at 10-all with five minutes left in the quarter, but the offense went cold allowing Presbyterian to hold a 12-10 lead going into the second. Hanner retied the game at 12-all to open the second and Wagner hit Radford's first three of the day at the 6:55 mark to give Radford a small 15-14 lead.
Once again, Radford's offense would go cold for three minutes until a Hanner layup put Radford up 17-16. Both teams would trade shots until the end of the first half, but it was Presbyterian who led 20-19 at the break.
In the third quarter Ashlyn briefly put Radford up 22-21 to start the second half before the Blue Hose returned favor to gain a lead they'd never give up. Radford's offense would find some shots from Wagner and Ashlyn, but Presbyterian had a response for every make staying ahead 36-32 to start the fourth.
In the fourth, things came to a grinding halt for Radford while Presbyterian hit its stride. The Highlanders would be outscored by 15 over the final 10 minutes as the Blue Hose went on a 19-2 run to close the game towards the eventual 60-37 final.

- Ashlyn scored in doubles figures in all three tournament games, capping her impressive weekend with 14 points tonight.
- Radford attempted just two free throws on the night, a season low that bests the previous low of three which also came against Presbyterian. The Blue Hose committed just four fouls, another low by a Radford opponent.
- Tanner got back to her typical ways with eight points and seven rebounds.
- Radford's defense did a solid job converting Blue Hose turnovers into points, converting 13 turnovers into 12 points.
- Ashlyn and Williams were named to the conference's all-tournament team thanks to their big performances over three games.
