Johnson Selected to Preseason All-Conference as Men’s Basketball Places Fourth in Preseason Poll

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – The Big South Conference announced at Big South Media Day presented by Food City the preseason poll and all-conference teams. Highlander transfer standout Jaylon Johnson was selected to the preseason all-conference first-team while Radford was also picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll.

Johnson transferred into the program this season after leading Tennessee Tech's offense last year with a remarkable 14.3 ppg and 153 total assists. Johnson started in all 32 games he played, scoring in double figures 25 times and was named to the Ohio Valley first-team all-conference and all-newcomer squad at the conclusion of the season. He led the conference in assists, the first Tennessee Tech player to do so since the 2011-12 season. Johnson is the first Highlander to earn preseason first-team honors since DaQuan Smith and Bryan Antoine prior to the 2023-24 campaign.

In the conference's preseason poll, voted on by the Big South's coaches, Radford was predicted to finish fourth, totaling 52 points. Despite uncertainty across the conference for predicted finish, Radford was picked towards the top of the poll separated by third and fifth place by just two points. Radford's highest selection placed the team in second with two votes apiece spread across third through sixth place.

Radford's 2025-26 season kicks off in just a couple weeks. Radford fans can get their first look at the team in a free admission exhibition on October 29th against Bridgewater. The Highlanders' regular season opens inside the Dedmon against Western Illinois on November 3rd.
