LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Radford softball program came up short in their first game of the weekend against Saint Joseph's, falling in a 5-1 final.
After a 1-2-3 top of the first inning tossed by Morgan Cooper, Radford had an early scoring opportunity but wasn't able to cash in. Isabel Harrison and Rachel Smith both picked up singles and moved to second and third, respectively, but with two outs the Highlanders weren't able to take the early lead.
Cooper tossed another scoreless frame in the second before Saint Joseph's scratched across their first run of the game from a sacrifice fly. In the fourth, Radford got a big strikeout and caught stolen base on the same pitch thanks to a strong throw from Kelley Feigen.
Radford would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth thanks to Dakota Redmon who singled in Cassi Barbato, making it a 2-1 game. Saint Joseph's added another pair of runs in the fifth however and Radford's offense wasn't able to pull off the comeback in the eventual 5-1 finish.
UP NEXT
Radford returns to action for another single game tomorrow against Hofstra. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. in Lynchburg.
