Highlanders Battle Close, Fall at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Radford women's tennis program saw multiple tight battles at Liberty Saturday morning, ultimately coming up short in the 6-1 final.
While the Flames would take the early 1-0 lead with the doubles point, the Radford duo of Brooke Murphy and Michaela Stephens got the first win of the day. The duo combined for a solid 6-4 win on court three, while the Flames took courts one and two.
With wins on the bottom three courts, Liberty was able to seal the match in their favor. On the top three courts, however, Radford fought hard going three sets in each. Julia Abrams and Stephens came up just short in their tiebreakers, but Lexi Smolder earned Radford's lone point with a big 6-2, 5-7, 1-0(7) win on court three.
Radford returns to action on the road once again when they visit Marshall on February 21st for a 4 p.m. start. The following day, the Highlanders will also face Illinois State in Huntington, W.Va.
