Women’s Tennis Battles Close, Ultimately Falls to Eagles

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis program attempted another valiant rally Sunday afternoon before coming up just short to North Carolina Central 4-3.
 
The match began with a tight doubles point where all three courts finished within a few games of each other. While N.C. Central took the early edge on court two, the Radford pairing of Julia Abrams and Lexi Smolder held on for a 6-4 win on court one to even things. The Eagles rallied on court three, however, taking the final court and the early 1-0 advantage.
 
In singles, North Carolina Central took another point before Radford would kick off its rally. Abrams would stay hot with a win in straight sets on court two. Natalia Reimer would earn a big win on court five, also in two sets, to even the match at 2-2. Lexi Smolder would keep the Highlanders pacing with the Eagles as she held on to win in three sets on court three.
 
The match would come down to the final court in play, the top flight, and would go the full three sets. The Eagles would hold off the comeback attempt, however, holding for the 4-3 final in their favor.
 
UP NEXT
The Highlanders four-match homestead now at a close, the team returns to the road this weekend when they visit Big South foe UNC Asheville. Action is set for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, March 29th.
