Box Score

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Radford men's basketball program battled in another game that was close throughout Wednesday night at California but ultimately fell in an 84-70 final as the Bears used over 50 points from beyond the arc to pull away.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

The three-point battle ended as the deciding factor in the game as California took a whopping 35 shots and connected on 17 of them while Radford scored just 21 of their 70 points from deep.
Leading Radford's scoring efforts was Frederik Erichsen with a new single-game carer high of 16 points in just his second career start.
For a second straight game, Radford's offensive production came from all over as nine different players got in on the scoring. Tristan Gross (9), Mathieu Grujicic (9), Ja'Corey Robinson (8) and Parby Kabamba (8) all had solid scoring nights.
Radford played much cleaner and committed just 12 fouls tonight and 13 turnovers. Nine of those 13 turnovers came in the first half, and Radford won the turnover battle forcing 14 by the Bears.
Radford also won the rebound battle 38-35 and dominated California in the paint 36-22.

THE PLAY BY PLAY
Like the Highlanders season opener, the team faced an early hole but battled back consistently to keep things close by the halftime break. California used the three-point line to a major advantage in the first half, hitting nine of 17 tries for most of their offense. Before they caught fire, it was Radford who jumped ahead for a lead as Ja'Corey Robinson scored six early points for an 8-5 advantage three minutes in.

Another make from Cameron Jackson kept Radford ahead at 10-8, but the threes began to rain down from the Bears as they hit three straight to build a lead that would hold for the rest of the first half. A three from Parby Kabamba helped break that run, but a slew of free throws by California saw Radford trailing 21-13.

A dunk from Gabriel Ferreira and five straight points from Frederik Erichsen jumpstarted the Highlanders to just a one-point deficit. More threes came down for California to push back ahead, but Jackson, Zion Walker and Mathieu Grujicic responded for another 6-0 run. Over the final seven minutes of the half, Radford got three-pointers from Tristan Gross and Mathieu Grujicic to keep pace with the hosts to only trail 45-37 at halftime.

Radford similarly trailed to San Francisco by just seven at the half earlier this week. Just as they did against the Dons, Radford would battle right back in the second half. A cold spell threatened to see things slip away, but at the 17-minute mark Radford began an 11-2 run to pull it back to a one-point game. Robinson kick started the run while Erichsen, Kabamba, Walker and Gross all had makes to make it just a 52-51 deficit.

The Bears responded, though, pulling back ahead with a 7-2 run of their own. Another string of three straight three-pointers vaulted them back ahead by 12 as Radford had no answers on the other end. A driving make from Gross halted the run, but the damage continued to pile on from beyond the arc as California ballooned their lead to as far as 79-62.

Radford would hold California to just five points over the four minutes of play, but a comeback just wasn't in the cards as time ran out. Before things went final Radford got an impressive turn around three from Ferreira and one last make from Erichsen in the paint, but it was California who held on for the 84-70 final.
