CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford's Jaslyne Robinson and Jaelynn Joiner have been named in the first Big South Women's Track & Field Outdoor weekly awards of the season, announced earlier today. Robinson was named the track co-athlete of the week, while Joiner took home the freshman of the week award.
Robinson had a dynamite weekend at the Big South vs. SoCon Challenge. The senior was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles, setting a new personal best with a time of 1:00.12. She followed that up with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a 14.00-second time. Robinson closed out the day with a win in the 4x400 meter relay, with the four Radford runners setting a new school record in the process with a 3:42.43. Overall, she accounted for 20.5 points at the event for the Big South, the fifth-most by any individual athlete at the meet. Robinson's time in the 400-meter hurdles was the second best all-time in school history, while the 100-meter hurdles mark is third best all-time in school history.
Joiner's highlight came in the long jump, where the freshman set a new school record with a leap of 6.22 meters (20'5"), also winning the event in the process. Her mark is the third best in Big South history and is tied for the fourth best at the NCAA Division I level this season. Joiner also took home three points for the conference with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, and her time of 25.00 checks in at eighth best in program history.
The pair of Highlanders received the awards in the first week of the outdoor season. Robinson's is the first weekly award of her career. Joiner was named Big South Freshman of the Week three times during the indoor season.
The Highlanders return to action this weekend at the Davidson Relays. The hammer throw is the lone event set for Friday afternoon, with the rest of the meet taking place on Saturday from the Irwin Belk Track at Richardson Stadium.
