Highlanders Post Strong Results Across Pair of Meets

DURHAM, N.C. & LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Radford track & field teams sent athletes to both the Duke Invitational and the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic this weekend, with many PRs and all-time marks being set on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11.

The Highlanders will once again split into several meets next weekend, with select athletes going to the Virginia Challenge and some heading to the Wake Forest Invitational. Both events begin on Friday, April 17 and conclude on Saturday, April 18.

NOTABLES AT DUKE
- Jeylah Hamrick placed fourth overall and third among collegiate runners in the 400 meters, setting a season-best time of 54.25 seconds. She beat several athletes from a few major programs, including Syracuse, Virginia, and UConn. Mattie Flores also added a personal best time of 56.73 in the event, bumping her to fifth on the all-time performance list.
- The Highlanders 4x400 meter relay team finished fifth overall and bumped up to second on the all-time performance list with a time of 3:45.22 (Jordan Jackson, Raichelle Cornelius, Flores, and Hamrick).
- Makayla Nelson set a new PR with what's tied for the fifth-best time in the 100 meter dash in program history with an 11.92. Janaya Moore also set a personal best with a time of 12.11 in the same event, which ranks eighth in program history.
- Leah Moye posted a time of 14.45 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, a new personal best and the eighth-fastest time in program history. Jaslyne Robinson just edged out her teammate with a time of 14.43.
- Jaelynn Joiner placed in the top half (14th overall) among an extremely competitive field in the long jump, topping out with a mark of 5.78 meters (18'11.75").
- Aliyah Taylor set a new PR in the triple jump, with a mark of 11.65 meters (38'2.75"). This moves her up to fifth on the all-time performance list.
- Sophie Magson ran a new season-best time in the 1500 meters, clocking in at 4:28.25 to finish in the top half of over 100 competitors in the event.
- Azrael Cabusco led the Highlanders in the 5000 meters, placing fifth overall with a time of 15:15.24. Teammates Mason Erchull and Jensen McCutcheon followed in sixth and ninth places, respectively. Cabusco's time places him fifth on the all-time performance list.
- Kayla Fields took victory in the 5000 meters in the women's event with a time of 17:42.52, also a personal best for the junior.
- Mya Rosser placed second overall and set a new personal best in the shot put with a mark of 12.23 meters (40'1.50"). This checks her into ninth place on the all-time performance list for the event. She also took home fourth place in the discus throw.
- Tyrique Taylor performed well in the shot put and discus throw, taking second overall in the former and third overall in the latter, respectively.
- Jaylen Rosser set a new PR with a mark of 36.13 meters in the discus throw, finishing sixth overall. Grace Crowe was just behind her in seventh.
- Owen Sexton and Ryan Connelly set new PRs in the 1500 meters. Sexton posted a time of 4:06.16 to finish seventh, while Connelly ran a 4:14.08. Sexton now checks into seventh on the all-time performance list.
