Dayshawn Wells begins his second season as Assistant Director of Operations and Video Coordinator after joining the Radford men’s basketball staff on September 27, 2019.
“We are happy to have Dayshawn on our staff,” Jones said. “His playing and coaching experience will be beneficial to our guys in several ways. Because he recently played, our players will be able to relate easily to him, which will be of great benefit to us and them. This position will allow him to really grow as he starts his coaching career. He will positively impact our program from day one, and we are fortunate to have him.”
In his role with the Highlanders, Wells oversees all things video and technology, aid in player development through video study, manage video edits and highlights and assist with maintaining a recruiting database.
Wells comes to Radford from Bowie State University, where he played for the Bulldogs from 2015-18. Recently, Wells was an assistant coach for Team Thrill 16U, which is an Elite Basketball Program founded by Denver Nuggets guard Will Barton to create opportunities for youth. There he served as recruitment coordinator for players in the District, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) region. He also helped develop strategies and game plans, while building player relationships among themselves and the staff.
Prior to his time with the 16U team, Wells was an assistant for the Team Thrill 17U squad in 2018. He facilitated player development by implementing practice strategies. He designed, developed and executed game plan strategies, while also building player relationships by coordinating team building activities.
During his playing career, Wells helped carry Bowie State to a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) title in 2017 and a CIAA Regular Season Championship in 2015. He became a team captain as a senior making 28 starts and averaging 29 minutes per game.
Wells graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism from Bowie State University in 2018. He was also a member of the Junior Business Club and the Debate Society. Wells was a 2013 graduate of Saint Frances Academy.
