James Haring enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for the Radford men’s basketball program, a position he took over in May 2021.
PRIOR TO RADFORD
Before making his way to the New River Valley, Haring served as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Dayton men's basketball program, members of the Atlantic 10 Conference, for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 campaigns. While with the Flyers, Haring was responsible for all administrative duties of the program, which included team travel and daily scheduling, to go with helping the coaching staff in a variety of practice, scouting and recruiting tasks.
Prior to his time in Dayton, Haring was the Coordinator of Basketball Operations at Jacksonville State for the 2017-18 campaign.
Haring got his coaching career started at the University of Illinois, where he was a graduate assistant for two seasons before being promoted to the Director of Basketball Operations for the Fighting Illini under head coach John Groce.
PERSONAL
A native of New Lenox, Illinois, Haring graduated Summa Cum Laude from West Virginia University, where he was a four-year team manager for the Mountaineers under head coach Bob Huggins. He served as the head team manager as a senior with the program. Haring earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from West Virginia in 2014 and his master’s in education policy studies from the University of Illinois in 2016.
