AS A FRESHMAN (2022-23)
Was a breakout for the Highlanders in her debut season with the Highlanders … Competed in all 19 spring matches competing primarily on court three singles and split time on court two and three doubles … Finished the season winning four of her last five singles matches against Elon 6-4, 7-5, Bluefield State 6-3, 6-3, Gardner-Webb 6-4, 6-4, and Presbyterian 6-1, 6-4 … Had a team-high in Big South victories and overall doubles wins … Picked up doubles wins against Monmouth 6-2, Wofford 6-4, Bluefield State 6-4, Campbell 6-4, and Gardner-Webb 7-5.

Smolder hails from Hurricane, W.V. and has been the number one recruit in West Virginia for the last three years according to Tennis Recruiting and was most recently ranked 16th in the Ohio Valley. Smolder didn't start competing in tennis until sixth grade and has since accumulated a strong list of accomplishments. In 2019 she was the AAA #1 singles state champion and in 2021 she was a state champion runner-up in singles play while winning the state championship for doubles play.
