CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Radford was defeated 9-1 by Tennessee Martin in its opener at the Frost Classic, hosted by Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Freshman Leigh Godfrey (Perth, Australia/Seton Hall College) and sophomore Shannon Keefe (Lemont Township, Ill./Lemont) recorded hits for the Highlanders.

The Skyhawks (11-3) broke up a 1-1 ball game with three runs in the second and four more in the fourth for the six-inning victory.

The teams traded runs in the first inning. After UT-Martin jumped on top 1-0, Radford responded with its only run of the game. Godfrey led off with a double in her first collegiate at bat and advanced to third on a ground ball. Junior Sarah Himan (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton) plated her with a sacrifice fly.

The Skyhawks broke the game open with a three-run double by Laura Roberts in the top of the second.

They would add four more in the fourth and capped the scoring off with one more in the sixth.

Radford will be back in action tomorrow when it takes on Rhode Island at 10 a.m. and Dayton at 5 p.m.
