After Shifflet's team-leading fourth home run, an RBI infield single by freshman Leigh Godfrey (Perth, Australia/Seton Catholic College) increased Radford's lead to 3-0 in the second. The Highlanders loaded the bases with a two more singles with two outs, but a fly ball to leftcenter ended the threat.
The Bulldogs posted their only run of the game in the third on a run-scoring single by Kaili Smith, plating Jessie Bailey, who doubled with one out. Snooks, who entered with two outs and runners on first and second, induced a ground out to end the threat.
She would retire the side in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. After her hit batter, Snooks recorded a strikeout and the game ended when Chelsea Bramlett lined into an unassisted double play to first baseman Michele Beall (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County).
Godfrey finished 3-3 with a run and RBI and sophomore Taylor Cunningham (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) recorded a pair of infield singles.
Against Oregon State, Radford rallied from a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the fifth to defeat the Beavers 3-2. Freshman Meredith Moore (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) recorded a two-out two-run double to tie the game and two batters later Shifflett ripped a single to left, plating Moore with the game-winning run.
The Beavers (13-12) tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, freshman Nichole Beall (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) led off with a double to center. After two pop ups, her twin sister Michele walked. Moore stepped up and stroked a double into the left centerfield gap, knocking in the Bealls to knot the game at 2-2. After Godfrey extended the inning with a walk, Shifflett laced her single to left for the game-winning hit.
Snooks retired the final seven batters of the game which included the side in the sixth and seventh innings to preserve the win.
Through the first 4.2 innings the Highlanders were unable to mount anything against OSU starter Kelly Dyer, who allowed three hits and a walk up until Michele Beall's free pass that allowed Moore the opportunity to hit her double.
Nichole Beall was the only Highlander with multiple hits in the game, registering a pair of doubles.
Radford remains in Honolulu for the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament (March 11-14). The Highlanders open up against St. John's and former head coach Amy Kvilhaug on Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. EST.
