Greenberg and Parakhouski Earn VaSID All-State Recognition

RADFORD, Va. – Radford head men's basketball coach Brad Greenberg has been named the 2009 Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) Coach of the Year, while junior Art Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus) earned first-team all-state recognition as announced Tuesday afternoon.
This past season Greenberg led his club to the biggest turnaround in league history, earning him 2008-09 Big South Coach of the Year honors. After finishing seventh in 2007-08, Radford claimed its fourth Big South regular season title and just its second tournament crown in school history.
Just after leading his club to the 2009 NCAA Tournament, Greenberg was tabbed the Richmond Times Dispatch State Coach of the Year.
Along with leading the Highlanders to their seventh 20-win season in school history, Radford tied the conference record for league wins in a season with 15. Greenberg's Highlanders also won a school-record nine-straight games away from home, which is currently the second longest streak in the nation.
Also the 2009 Red Auerbach Coach of the Year and finalist for the Hugh Durham award, Greenberg is the first Highlander head coach since 1991-92 to earn conference coach of the year.
Parakhouski, the 2008-09 Big South Player of the Year and AP Honorable Mention All-America selection, finished his first season in a Highlander uniform ranked among conference leaders in the following categories: scoring (7th/16.2), rebounding (2nd/11.2), field-goal percentage (2nd/.537), free-throw percentage (12th/.655), blocked shots (3rd/1.52), defensive rebounds (2nd/7.1) and offensive rebounds (2nd/4.0).
To go along with his postseason honors, Parakhouski was a three-time Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week and recorded 17 double-doubles in 2008-09.
For the season, Parakhouski hit double figures in 28 of Radford's 33 contests and pulled down at least 10 rebounds 19 times and 15 or more on seven occasions.
Joining Parakhouski on the VaSID first-team were, Eric Maynor (VCU), Seth Curry (Liberty), Chavis Holmes (VMI) and A.D. Vassallo (Virginia Tech).
Maynor was tabbed the association's Player of the Year, while Curry was selected the VaSID Rookie of the Year.
The second team included Kevin Anderson (Richmond), Malcolm Delaney (Virginia Tech), Sylven Landesberg (Virginia), Gerald Lee (Old Dominion) and Larry Sanders (VCU) Honorable mention honors went to Jeff Allen (Virginia Tech), Michael Deloach (Norfolk State), Travis Holmes (VMI), Juwann James (James Madison), Anthony Smith (Liberty) and Dana Smith (Longwood).
