RADFORD, Va. – Radford's historic winning and shutout streak ended Thursday evening as the Highlanders fell to High Point, 1-0, in overtime.

The Panthers' Becca Hemby set up a free kick in the 96th minute that crossed over the box and found Samm Vercellino whose cross in front of the goal line found the head of Kelli Joline. Joline's score ended the Radford historic shutout streak at 658:43.

High Point improved to 6-8-3, 4-1-2 Big South while Radford fell to 11-4-0, 6-1-0 Big South.

Sophomores Sahar Aflaki (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) and Sydney Golden (Lexington, Va./Paul L. Dunbar) presented the best scoring chances for the Highlanders. Aflaki took advantage of a loose ball in the 51st minute from the edge of the box and ripped a shot that sailed just wide of the upper left 90. Golden, was a threat on free kicks all game, as two shots fell short of the goal line, resulting in saves by High Point keeper Andrea Ritchie.

The Panthers held the slight edge in the shot column, 11-10, but Radford had the advantage in corners, 5-1.

Senior Lisa Lubke (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) took the loss, but played well, making four saves on the night. Her best save came in the 55th minute where she dove in front of a High Point shot to preserve the scoreless game at the time.

“It was a hard-fought game between two good teams. It was a fun game for everyone to watch and High Point took advantage of a set piece at the end and we need to get better defending those,” said head coach Ben Sohrabi.

The Highlanders end the season on a three-game road stretch, beginning Saturday against in-state rival Liberty at 7 p.m.
