Radford softball will take on its biggest challenge Tuesday night when it travels to Knoxville, Tenn. and faces the sixth-ranked Lady Vols of Tennessee in a single game slated for 6 p.m.
The Highlanders (28-14) are coming off a three-game Big South series sweep of Coastal Carolina at home. Radford took the Sunday doubleheader by the scores of 4-2 and 8-1 and concluded with a 6-0 shutout on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Vols (38-6) have won 10 straight after taking all three games in a SEC road series at then-No. 21 LSU last weekend. Tennessee cruised to 6-0, 11-0 and 7-2 wins over the Tigers.
The teams have met five times with the Lady Vols winning all five meetings, including an 11-2 (5) victory the last time they met on April 21, 2004 in Bristol, Tenn.
After going 6-for-8 in the final two contests against Coastal Carolina, Nichole Beall paces the Highlnander bats with a .361 average, 13 doubles, nine home runs, 36 RBI and 28 runs scored.
In the circle, Jackie Jenkins is 13-2 with a 1.20 ERA and five shutouts. She has two saves and is holding opponents to a .228 batting average.
Radford returns home this weekend for a league series against Winthrop. The Highlanders will play two on Friday starting at 2 p.m. and conclude on Saturday at 1 p.m. The series finale will be preceded by a ceremony honoring Radford's senior class.
