CROSS COUNTRY ANNOUNCES INCOMING CLASS

RADFORD, Va. – Second year head cross country coach Sean Bossman announced on Wednesday the signing of two men and four women's athletes to join the program for the upcoming 2011 campaign.
Ryan Farnan (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) and Jake Zimmerman (Chester, Va./L.C. Bird) stand as the two men's signings while Emily Marshall (Prince George, Va./Prince George), Caitlin Rodriguez (Houston, Texas/Newcaney), Madeline Thomas (Springfield, Va./Bishop Ireton) and Teresa Williamson (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) represent the women's additions.
A three-time All-Northwestern District selection and 2010-11 team captain, Farnan will provide depth to the league's surprise team that finished fifth at last year's Big South Championship after being picked ninth in the preseason. In addition to his district accolades, Farnan was also all-region during his junior campaign and placed 17th at state.
Zimmerman comes to Radford having earned all-district honors 17 times at L.C. He currently holds school records in the 800m, 1000m, 3 mile, 4x400m and 4x800m. A regional champion in the 800m and all-state honoree, Zimmerman will make an immediate impact in 2011.
On the women's side, Marshall was named team captain during her senior campaign. A three-time academic all-district honoree, Marshall was also honored at the regional level academically.
In addition to earning district honors, Rodriguez became a regional qualifier in cross country and was named Newcomer of the Year her freshman year. On the track, she was also a two-time Junior Olympic Qualifier in the steeplechase.
While at Bishop Ireton, Thomas was named Alexandria City Female Track Athlete of the Year. She also earned the cross country Cardinal Award and was MVP of her track squad.
A two-year team MVP, Williamson became the Southeastern District Cross Country Champion and also the district's top 1600m indoor performer. In addition, she was a two-time cross country state qualifier and she grabbed third place in the Eastern Region her senior season.
