GREEN AND PRICE NAMED ALL-FRESHMAN; CERRAH SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

"I am extremely proud of our three student-athletes' accomplishments and the recognition received from the Big South Conference and league coaches," said Radford head coach Mike Jones. "All three of these young men have bright futures ahead of them and we are proud to call them Highlanders!"
Green, who led all Big South freshman in rebounding (6.7) and double-doubles (7), ranked just behind his classmate in scoring, averaging 10.4 points, while leading Radford with 43 steals and 16 blocks.
A native of Alberta, Va., Green has scored in double figures a team-best 20 times, including the last 14 contests, where he is averaging 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, while shooting 53 percent from the floor and contributing four double-doubles and three 20-point efforts.
Price, a two-time Big South Freshman of the Week selection, led the Highlanders in scoring (11.0), assists (116 / 3.7) and 3-pointers made (58).
The only Radford player to start all 31 contests this season, Price scored in double figures 19 times, including a season-high 22 at Maryland. In addition, the Atlee High School product ranks among conference freshmen in scoring (4th), assists (3rd), steals (2nd), 3-pointers made (1st) and assist/turnover ratio (3rd), while shooting 40 percent from long range in conference games.
"R.J. and Javonte have been terrific leaders for our young team the entire season on the court, so it's fitting for them to be recognized among the league leaders."
The last time Radford had two players selected to the all-freshman squad in the same season was 1998-99 (Andrey Savtchenko and Correy Watkins).
Joining the Highlander duo on the all-freshman squad were Charleston Southern's backcourt of Saah Nimley and Arlon Harper and Trey Freeman of Campbell, who was selected Freshman of the Year.
Cerrah, the fifth Highlander in school history to be named Scholar Athlete of the Year, leads all Big South men's basketball players with a 3.93 GPA, while majoring in computer science and technology.
"This conference has a plethora of good students, who also excel on the basketball court, so for Tolga to be selected as the best of the best is a special accomplishment," commented Jones.
On the court, Cerrah has started 21 of the 29 games he's appeared and leads Radford with a .508 field-goal percentage.
The Highlanders will travel to seventh-seeded VMI Monday evening for the opening round of the 2012 Big South Men's Basketball Tournament.
