BALTIMORE, Md. – In addition to clinching the crucial doubles point, Radford got three singles victories from its freshman class to hold off UMBC, 4-3, in non-conference women's tennis action Sunday morning at the Twin Lakes Racquet Club.

RU improves to 2-2 on the young season, while the Retrievers fall to 2-2 overall.

With the doubles portion tied at one win apiece, the Highlanders' first-year duo of Hannah Crawford and Meg Napolitano gave their club the early advantage with a 9-8 (5) victory over Shalini Sahoo and Josefin Stange-Jonsson.

Radford's other doubles triumph came from Petra Dajevic and Gemma Valls on court three.

In singles, the Highlanders got wins from three of their four freshmen. Valls defeated Heidi Danielsson, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot, while Napolitano and Crawford provided the game-winning points with three-set decisions at the sixth and third positions, respectively.

With her win on court six, Napolitano improved to 4-0 on the spring.

Radford will enjoy a 10-day break before traveling to Lexington for a dual with Washington & Lee on Feb. 15.
