RADFORD, Va. – The Radford track and field programs will head down to the Palmetto State Apr. 19-21 to compete in the 2012 Big South Outdoor Championships, hosted by Coastal Carolina.
The championships will be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
In total, the Highlanders have 18 individual victories this outdoor season led by Vincent Wyatt's three 110m hurdles titles and two apiece from Aimee Veatch and Kaise White.
At conference a year ago, White was all-conference in the 400m, while Brett Olinger stood at the top of the podium in the 400m hurdles on the men's side. For the women, Veatch won her third consecutive hammer throw crown and Courtni Pannell and Nikki Roseberry garnered all-conference honors in the 100m hurdles and high jump, respectively.
Collectively, Radford scored Top-3 performances in 9 events in 2011. The men came out with 83 points and fifth-place in the team standings, while the women took seventh with 47.50 points.
Athletes to watch out for this year are Allen Dooms, Joseph Betts and Tehquin Warrick in the sprints and Travis Hudson in the high jump, as each garnered indoor all-conference showings.
The 4x100 and 4x400m relays teams will also vie for top podium honors. Both teams have earned an all-conference spot in each of the last four years.
Brian Uthe will lead the men in the throws area. Uthe is coming off his first collegiate victory in the hammer throw at the Carolina's Cup.
Lakei Crews and Kayla Christian will look to score in the women's sprints. Shalonda Mitchell has also posted two straight 800 times below 2:17.00 and entered the Radford Top-10. Furthermore, Caroline Ratterree now has her PR in Radford's Top-10 in the 3000, 5000 and 10000m.
