BIG SOUTH ALL-DECADE TEAMS ANNOUNCED FOR CROSS COUNTRY

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Big South Conference officials released the all-decade teams for cross country Friday morning as part of the league celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2013-14. Radford had nine representatives in the listing.

Mitzi Hartwell, Diana Naylor and Angie Ogden were named to the 1980s women's cross country all-decade team. Hartwell, a member of the Radford Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2004, captured the Big South's first-ever women's individual championship in 1986. In addition, Hartwell led the Highlanders to the team title and was the Big South Women's Runner of the Year.

In 1987, Ogden followed in Hartwell's footsteps as she claimed the Big South individual title, the Big South Women's Runner of the Year and led Radford to the team championship.

Naylor became RU's third individual champion when she claimed the 1988 conference title and earned the Big South Women's Runner of the Year.  She is the Highlanders' only three-time all-conference selection in women's cross country.

The honor of top head coach of the 1980s went to Mick Stewart, who guided Radford to two Big South team titles (1986-87).

Keelyn Wu and Dwayne Stover represented the Highlanders on the 1980s men's cross country all-decade team. Wu is Radford's first-ever Big South men's cross country individual champion in 1988. In addition, he is one of only two Highlanders to earn all-conference accolades three times during a career. Stover was the league's individual champion in 1989.

Behind three Big South team titles (1985-87), Tyler Will was recognized as the top head coach of the 1980s.

Merrill Hausenfluck, the 1993 Big South individual champion, was the lone runner from Radford on the 1990s all-decade team. He was a two-time all-conference honoree.

Dawitt Legesse is the other Highlander to earn all-conference recognition three times in a career. For accomplishing that feat, he earned a spot on the 2000s men's cross country all-decade team.
