RADFORD, Va. – After a week off from competition, the Radford men's and women's cross country teams get back on the course Saturday morning as they take part in the UNC Asheville Challenge.
Â
The Highlanders are among six Big School programs scheduled to compete in the meet, joining Campbell, High Point, Presbyterian, Winthrop and the host school.
Â
UNC Asheville and Campbell figure to be the Radford women's primary challengers for position at the conference meet in late October, while the Highlander men will likely be contending with the Bulldogs for position.
Â
This will be the first meet of the season for the women at the 5K distance. Courtney Burton led the way in the season-opening 4K, while Courtney Rice is among three RU runners coming off a personal-best 6K performances two weeks ago.
Â
The men will be running their second 8K race, with much of the team getting their first experience at the distance in the last meet at Virginia Tech, including Cameron Mims and Mak Casey who were the team's top two finishers. Several Highlanders also bettered their previous top times.
Â
The meet gets underway with the men's race at 9 a.m., followed by the women's at 9:45.
